I am glad to see that finally that there is going to be a registry for PSW. We are a Home Care Company who do hourly and live in care (non medical). I want to know if as a company we can register our PSW's or must they register them selves. What documentation will they need.
PSWs wishing to be on the Registry must self register. Those eligible to be on the Registry by virtue of holding a PSW certificate from a recognized program must provide a copy of the certificate. Those who are eligible because they are currently working in the field or have worked in the field in the last five years - must provide proof of employment. Either a job letter or a paystub that indicates their role with the company
What is meant by recognized program? I went to college for PSW. Would this be enough? Also why not change our titles to Certified Nursing Assistants? Our scope of care is constantly changing to include more nursing skills. I know more support workers would agree and feel more professional. Most of us are upgrading our skills and would appreciate the title that should go with it since now a registry is taking place.
Hi Dara, I live in Ontario,I also went to college for my PSW certificate, It's consideredto be a private college. When I took the course,My text book's said Nurses Assistant on them.
I agree fully with you, because that's what we are, We're deffinatly the laborer of Nursing. We do need more credit and more reconization.
A recognized program is a program that is offered by a school that is legally authorized to provide the PSW certificate. There are some schools that are not authorized to provide the program, but still offer the program. To find out if a school is legally authorized to provide the program, you can visit our FAQ section and click on the links provided for the question "Where is the PSW program taught"
When I use the website you provide on your site, Www.pswregisty.org it asks for authentication I'd and password.
Geez, all I want is to know the process to register. Should be much more clear and easy!!!! Any help out there would be appreciated!
