I would like to know if as an agency, we have to register our agency name on the website?
Most of my staff of PSW's have already registered.
Thanks, Joyce MacDonald
Hi Joyce - Currently the names of the publicly funded home-care agencies are pre-populated on the site. In the first phase of the rollout of the Registry, these are the agencies that we are focusing on. The Registry is however open to all PSWs and those employed to provide personal support services. Employees of other agencies can register, but will need to manually type in the name of the agency. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.

Hi I just found out about the PSW registry..what does that mean for us? Money increase? Regulations? Are we like the college of nurses now? Do we have to pass an exam?
The registry is simply a tool which will hopefully allow us to track the workforce, education and professional development of PSW. There is no fee or exam. This is not a college or regulatory body. All the registry does is collect the data so that we, and ultimately the MOHLTC, has an accurate picture of the sector.
From the registry website:
"The Registry is a means by which PSWs can be identified and recognized for their contributions to the health care system.
The Registry assists employers in filling vacancies by allowing them to verify if an employee or prospective employee is registered. Clients and their families/caregivers are also able to verify such information.
The Registry helps the Government of Ontario plan to meet the current and future needs of Ontarians. The information it captures is invaluable to both health human resource planning and broader government policy planning."

When I graduated back in 2000 my teacher gave us our personal support worker pin and it has number, she said that the number is registered with the government. Is this the same thing. ?
Am I the only person offended by the language used by the person giving ctv news interview? I went to school for a yearof training. I Wasn't certified in a month. Did the ctv news coverage misrepresent what this registry stands for? We, hard working dedicated, psw's were painted in a bad light, if you watched the footage I saw

Hi I have been a psw for 17years I took my course in Montreal would I be able to register
Hi, I have been a psw for over 17 years and I believe now that it's time that we are recognized more as a professional. Many of us are looked down on and treated as if we don't matter or not a part of the nursing team. We do bedside care and a lot of paperwork, amongst many other duties. It even ranges from delegated task (trained) of giving medication to intramuscular injections. Psw out in the community has a wide range of duties, such as those delegated task and ones in the retirement homes has another set of delegated task as well as in the long term care facilities, which leads me to believe that we are all capable to do what nurses do. We are now faced with more complex cases in the long term care facilities. It is not just the aged anymore like it use to be years ago and the ministry of health does not recognize this. We now have cases from CAMH...many extreme behavioral cases that we are not trained for, but they bring the cases in for us to handle anyway, and may I add, also being understaffed. We are not mental health nurses, but we have the cases to deal with. It's about time that we are acknowledged, appreciated and recognized. I have heard and seen with my own eyes, some psw's that knows more than some nurses do...it's a shame. This is all about the institutions making money.
Hi, how come psw's are registered in Florida and other parts of the States, but not in Canada? Why the title psw...why not cna? We are certified and we are assisting the nurses. Isn't that a better title? Personal supoort worker sounds too much like someone who is one on one personal, just for that person kind of position. It may fit the community worker, but not for long term care facilities where you service more than one on the floor. We are not maids, as we are called out in the community due to the title given. We are front line, should be taken more seriously. We need to have a professional title. Someone needs to speak up for us.
