CALL FOR WORKSHOPS
The Personal Support Network of Ontario (PSNO) invites you to submit a workshop abstract for our Annual Conference New Directions, New Opportunities. Join us and share your expertise, experience and new ideas with our delegates. We anticipate 300 - 350 delegates for a day of outstanding workshops and plenary sessions.

The support work landscape is changing. From the province’s health strategy to the PSW Registry, support workers have a tremendous opportunity to impact the diverse needs of many Ontarians. This conference will focus on the unique contribution Personal Attendants (PA) and Personal Support Workers (PSW) can provide as key participants in Ontario’s long term care support system whether in the community or in long term care homes. We also welcome sessions geared toward PSW Supervisors and PSW Educators. Supervisors and Educators are essential to the ability of a PSW to provide support to Ontarians.

We are calling for presentation abstracts that focus on the role and skills that PA/PSWs can bring, as well as ways that PSW Supervisors and Educators can support PA/PSWs specifically in the areas of best practises in:
  • Complex client support (Spinal Cord Injury, Dementia Care, Palliative Care, Aggression, etc.)
  • Team Leadership/Team Participation
  • Ethics
  • Personal Preparation for Support Work
  • Prevention/Habilitation/Rehabilitation
  • Getting a Handle on Change and Processing Information
  • The use of new technologies
  • New ways of working with other health professionals

Abstracts should focus on the following:
  • Details of the role of the support worker
  • Practical skills for the support worker
  • Tangible benefits to the support worker

The Conference Committee also welcomes abstracts that may not fall within the topics above.

SESSION LENGTH
Conference Sessions are 55 minutes in length inclusive of a 10 minute question period.
