Personal Support Worker Professional Development Scholarship
2008 Recipient: Andrew Kidza
_Andrew is currently a PSW with Bellwood Centres for Community Living
Inc. He has had a long career in health care services. Originally from
Uganda, he studied Medicine, receiving his Bachelors of Medicine and
Surgery in 1987 and a Masters of Medicine (General Surgery) in 1994 from
Makerer University in Kampala, Uganda. In Uganda he worked as a
Medical Officer, Senior House and General Surgeon. Andrew made a
decision to join his family in Canada, but was unable to practice
medicine because of regulatory requirements. He began working as a
replacement services support worker and later started working for
Bellwood Centres in 2000. In 2003 he completed his Personal Support
Worker Certificate.
Currently, Andrew is pursuing a Bachelor of
Science in Nursing degree at York University. Andrew plans to use his
degree to become a Nurse Practitioner working in underserved
communities. We wish Andrew all this best in pursuing his academic and
professional goals.
